Bedums was baptized a member of our church today. Her cousin turned 8 three days before she did, so we did a joint gathering and did it all together. These two girls are best cousin friends and loved sharing their special day together. Thanks to everyone who spent it with us!
I'm a mean mom. At least, according to my kids. I only do friend birthday parties every 4 years (or so). This was Bedums year to have one. It was crazy! She wanted a farm animal party with traditional party games, farm style. Well, since all but 1 friend came, it was crazy and we just went with the flow. I think the big hits were the pinata, duck duck goose, and red rover. She had fun, so that's all that matters, right? Next party is 12 years old.
My baby turned 8 on May 1st. It's really crazy how fast time flies. It seems like just last week I was dealing with a newborn. She's such a tender-hearted girl with a deep love of animals and nature. She's never been a "traditional" girl until recently. She'd rather play house with animals than dolls. But lately, she's been into American Girl dolls. She got some AG things for her birthday, along with some animals. She was in heaven! She decided on her cake and dinner, too. Very specific--vanilla cake with vanilla frosting, yellow with blue flowers. Sliced ham, peas, orzo pasta with butter and parmesan cheese, strawberries, and soft rolls. Haha. We also hide clues in balloons and the kids have to pop the balloons in numbered order, read the clue, find the gift, and open it. Toby doesn't like the balloons, so she decided to just read the clues without the popping. We had grandpa here for the night, which was fun. What a fun day!
Teen 2 had the same problem that Teen 1 had--her top two eye teeth wouldn't come in because they're growing sideways. Eight months after having them pulled, one started to come in, but the other one was stuck. Almost $900 and a painful weekend later, she is doing great. The chain is attached to get braces and she's ready to get it in. It was so funny watching her come or if anesthesia. She kept saying she was in Love...really in Love. I thought I'd finally get a secret out of her, but it was only a movie star. Haha.
I looked out the window and what did I see? A unicorn jumping on the trampoline. I'll miss the days when the kids don't dress up anymore...
Bedums had to do a presentation in school that was all in Chinese. I still get amazed at how fast and well these kids pick up on it. They had to design their dream house and then tell about it. It was fun to hear, even though I didn't understand any of it. She's at a low intermediate level on speaking and understanding and a high beginner level for reading and writing.
Bedums got to bring Froggy home from school for a week. Each child in the class has a turn to do so and then at the end of the week, they write about their adventures. She took Froggy for a ride in her American Girl horse, dressed him up in a dress, passed him, put him on Toby, etc. She thought it was all hilarious. Poor Froggy...
