Cake

Dad and big brother were out of town for Buggins' birthday, so we had the cake and ice cream on Tuesday night (the next day). I tried to make a Beyblade cake, but my artistic abilities were lacking. I also tried to make the frosting gray. It looks gray in the picture, but was purplish in real life. He was happy with it though and it tasted great!

Happy 10th Birthday #3!!!

Favorite treat--Reese's!!

So much excitement!!

Buggins turned 10 on May 27. He got a video game (Create) where you have to think through challenges and build things. I said that a review mentioned it was hard for a 4 year old but I figured a 10 year old could handle it. He said, "Mom, am I 10?! Right now?" I told him yes and he said he didn't feel like he is 10. Haha. Jon and Teen 1 were out if town, so we skyped. We also went and did go carts, laser tag, and mini golf, followed by a BBQ at grandparents. I think he had a fun day!
He made a newspaper hat (with a balloon topper) for himself to celebrate. His primary gave him the name thing to hang on his wall and he insisted on wearing it around. :)

County Parade

The fourth graders had a county parade today. They made a cape representing their county and each told a fact; they also sang a few songs. I can't believe this school year is almost over with!!

The Frog Prince

I love our frog! He's so fun to watch. The other day, it looked like he was looking at himself. Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the froggiest one of all??

Help?

Does anyone know how to get rid of this ground cover? I don't even remember what it's called. I planted it years ago and it's taking over everything! I have pulled it up numerous times and even sprayed it with roundup last year. But back it came, with a vengeance...

2nd Annual Jane Austen (Regency) Tea Party

Yesterday was the tea party. Last year (click here), I made a dress and got all ready to go. This year, due to crazy memories of trying to sew a dress, when I'm NOT really a sewer, I rented one. :) Much easier!! I went with the same group of friends, plus two, and got together with a bunch of my favorite authors to have a tea reminiscent of the 18-teens. We had herbal (or "gerbil" as Buggins calls them) teas, hot chocolate, cheese and crackers, fruit, veggies, "biscuits"--shortbread cookies, chocolate covered almonds, homemade caramels (yum!), etc. We had musical selections and a reading (by yours truly), and had a lot of time to visit and mingle. The highlight of the party was taking pictures afterwards. That is becoming a FUN tradition!! It was a blast!! And we're already talking about next year. :)

We decided since we're the readers and not the writers, we're just invited to be the entertainment. Does that make us jesters or gentry? Or something else??

Oops! Eyes closed. :)

Beautiful, fun friends!!

Baby Pet

Teen 2 and I were looking online for fun pets. I remember when I was little, I wanted a pet baby monkey soooooooo badly!!!! I wanted to dress it up and put it in a diaper and carry it all over the place. It would be like having a real, live toy or baby. My sister had a toy monkey that was sooo cute!! But it was a boy, and I wanted a baby girl monkey. Teen 2 and I looked up pet monkeys for sale in our area and found some!! How crazy is that? Now that I'm grown up, I think a pet monkey would be hard work because it would be like an eternal baby. Don't they live for a long, long time? I wonder if you could potty train them; train them to do chores; teach them to be good and not naughty. I always associate monkeys with mischievous behavior (monkey business, anyone?). I always wanted a baby chimp, but baby capuchins are what's for sale around here. Hmmm... they're really cute, but probably not. Too much work.

The Horse Cake

I'm not artistic, but I'm always willing to try. Maybe someday I'll even try fondant. Jenna wanted a horse cake and most of the ones on Pinterest and google were looking 3-D. Um...no thanks. I accidentally put one ear on backwards and didn't notice until it was cemented in frosting, so to me, it looks more donkey-ish. Here's what she got:

Happy 7th Birthday, Jenna!!!

Okay, I'm in denial here. My baby is 7 years old today. 7!!!!! How did that happen?! She is such a sweetheart. Jon had to be out of town this week--he couldn't get out of it--so we skyped and opened her gifts after school. She's in such a good, happy mood. She wants crepes for dinner and she wanted a vanilla horse cake. That was interesting, considering how artistic I am--NOT!! Her first gift of the day must have been a prank--not funny--SNOW!!! She got a lot of butterfly stuff, some littlest pet shops, and a webkinz wolf. What a fun day!!
