Jon gives himself a haircut every 6 weeks or so and when he does, he always asks me if he got it all in the back. His hair grows in different directions in some places. This morning, he cut it and then asked if he got it all. There was one little spot in the back, near the top that he'd missed. He asked me to get it for him. He ALWAYS has the clippers all ready to go, but this time, he'd taken the attachment off and was cleaning up when he asked--I did NOT know that. So...I took a swipe to get that little part and about died. With no attachment, I swiped a big bald spot into the back of his head!!!! OH MY GOODNESS!!!!!!!!!!!! We had to shave his whole head. He's okay with it, but I feel awful because it's still not exactly summer yet. I'll try and post a picture later....

Rings
I bought myself a "new" wedding ring last night!! I take the kids out on a mommy/child date once in awhile and last night was Kristen's turn. We went and got ice cream and then went next door to Claire's. Last week, I was sitting in church and noticed that my wedding ring band was cracked right in half. I know a couple of the main diamond prongs are worn away as well, so I don't want to wear it anymore. Not until I get it fixed. But I feel weird going without a ring, so I bought a cheap cubic zirconium ring that actually looks pretty nice.
About two weeks before Jon and I got engaged, I was at work and this guy that I had dated before his mission came in--he'd just gotten home. We talked for a minute and then he pointedly looked at my hand and said, "Ah, no ring. Do you want to go out??" I about died--Jon and I were way too serious. I'm sure nothing like that would happen again, especially to an old haggard-looking mom, but I want a ring just to be sure. :)
The crack is just to the right of the diamond. Yikes!!

Jarren
Jarren is loving being off-track! He's ready for a break from learning and homework and sitting still all day. We think he has some attention deficit problems and he's been going through a lot of testing for that. He also has some speech problems, so he's being worked with for that at school. The poor kid can just use a break!

They're Back...

Does anyone remember Care Bears?? I do and they're back!! Actually, they were back "in" a few years ago, but Jenna has just discovered them in the last few months. And that girl is a collector! She has to have them all, but since they can't be purchased in stores, we have to find them in other ways. She LOVES them!! They talk and walk, but they're not dolls or princesses--they're animals! What can be better than that?

We're in the Tropics!
This has been a very warm February. It's almost felt tropical! All of the snow melted off and the little new snow we get doesn't stick. For example...on Sunday, it was 38 degrees here for the high and 25 degrees for the low. Up where my parents live, about 100 miles to the north, it was 25 for the high and 1 for the low. So...it's official. We live in the tropics! I WISH! :) The kids are off-track and have spent part of each day outside playing, which is kind of unusual for February!

"New" Dog
We are taking our turn in dog sitting my in-laws dog while they are in China for a year. They are teaching English at a university in Jinan. This dog is an 8 1/2 year old beagle and he can be very naughty!! We got him some doggy diapers because he's prone to marking his territory. We'll have him for about 5-6 weeks and then he's off to someone else. His name is Frodo, which is funny because he's a big wanderer and the Hobbit Frodo is a homebody.

Recorders
Kristen is in 4th grade this year and this is the year they learn to play the recorder. She had a recorder concert and she didn't want to go! She said they sounded sooo bad and she was embarrassed. I thought they actually sounded pretty good--not Carnegie Hall professionals, but for 4th graders, they were good! Of course I only got one picture and then the camera died....Kristen's favorite song to play was "Oh Susannah." (She is on the front row in a white shirt with a denim vest to the left of a girl in pink.)

6th Grade Science Fair
Kendall finished his science fair project and won 2nd place. I don't care about all of that--I just wanted him to get a good grade--he got an "A!" Kendall called me at 8:45 am on the day of the fair and told me parents could come from 9-11. I wasn't even dressed and ready, so I got ready and went over at 10 and found out that it ended at 10:15, so he's lucky I made it!! There were some really fun projects.

35!
Happy Birthday to me! I turned 35 on January 30. It was a super, busy, crazy Saturday, but it was a lot of fun. My parents, baby sister, three of my brothers, sister-in-law, and nephew all came down and we hung out and then went out for pizza. We finished the night with one of Kendall's basketball games, followed by cake and ice cream. Kristen decorated the cake--I LOVE snowmen! It was a great day, I just don't like getting older. This was the ONLY picture I got of my "big" day.

I'm Back.....Kind Of.....
I'm having problems with my digital camera. We had a couple of trojan viruses on the computer and when we got rid of those, things have been messed up. I plug the camera into the computer and it's telling me the scanner can't be found and now I can't even find the cable and I can't find any batteries that will work in the camera. So...I've put off blogging because I want pictures to go with the posts.
Here's a preview of a few of the things to come.....
*My 35th Birthday
*Kendall's science fair
*Kristen....something about Kristen, but I can't remember what
*Our "new" dog
*Our home (in a tropical location)
Stay tuned and I'll try and get everything up and running soon.
